I contemplated about buying this mask since it was pricey. I’m 65 years old. I have purchased, in the past, other red light therapy masks. This by far was the most powerful. If there ever was a mask that was worth its money, it is this. This seemed to run circles around others that I compared on the internet and YouTube. I could have bought a mediocre red light therapy mask but decided that I wanted deeper and more powerful results. And this is it. It comes down to the old adage, you pay for what you get. They also have excellent customer service. The mask is also made in San Jose California.

I held off reviewing the Lumara Viso Red Light Therapy Mask for a few weeks so I could get a good idea of how well it worked. Hi, I am the biggest skeptic in the world when it comes to these gadgets, which seem gimmicky and not rooted in real science. So to suggest I was approaching this product with a healthy dose of “we’ll see” is an understatement.First, it is evident from the start that this mask means business. It is packaged well in a nice box that contains all the pieces: the control unit, charging cord and block, a small black travel bag, and of course, the mask itself. The immediate reaction was one of surprise to see just how many lights this mask contains, and how bright it really is. When they say that this mask has more lights on it than any other on the market, they are not kidding! The eye cups that are included are an absolute must to avoid blinding yourself.In pulling out the control unit though, I was disappointed to see that it had scratches on it, almost like it was used and then returned (see picture). Since this doesn’t affect the functionality of the control unit, it’s normally something I would just live with and not say anything about. However, if I am paying nearly $600 for this device, I expect it to come out of the box looking brand spanking new. Additionally, the controller on the website and in other reviews looks to be different than the one I received, making me wonder if it is indeed an older model that had been refurbished.Attaching the straps took me a little bit to figure out – I never did score well on spatial awareness tests in school – but once I did I was pleased that I could adjust them at whim, either while wearing the mask, or before or after. The mask is fairly comfortable to wear, so long as you don’t tighten the straps too hard. I made that mistake the first go around, and wound up with a headache. I must say that I vastly prefer the type of mask that is solid, like a hockey goalie’s mask as it doesn’t sit directly against the face, but this one does clean up well after use and is easier to store.Using the mask is easy; it defaults to 10 minutes, which is the minimum amount of time they recommend. You can go all the way up to 20 minutes, and even do it twice a day if you want. The intensity can be easily adjusted too, and the self timer is a great feature so I can just sit back and relax during treatment; sometimes I even fall asleep as the gentle warmth from the mask is quite soothing, and never enough to actually burn or otherwise harm or irritate my skin.I worried that with so many lights, my skin – which tends toward the dry side anyway – would feel like the Sahara desert, but that wasn’t the case at all. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised by how soft my skin felt immediately after treatment. I was fully prepared to apply moisturizer afterward, but I found I didn’t even need it. In addition to some fine lines and wrinkles, my biggest skincare concern is discoloration, or age spots. Before even strapping this thing on, I did all the research to make sure it wouldn’t actually make my age spots worse. After using it for 2 weeks, I can say I haven’t noticed them getting worse, and they seem to have “broken up” a bit. I am trusting the process and I think this is the first step toward them diminishing over time. I have also noticed my skin take on a firmer, clearer, better appearance, and I am excited for the results I’ll achieve after continued daily use. Consistency is the key!One thing I do wish about the mask itself is that it had a way to address the upper lip area. A few years back, I had some sun damage there that gave me a perpetual mustache. Fortunately, I treated it away with the help of my dermatologist, but I would love a way to keep that area free from discoloration. In addition, the dreaded lip wrinkles (aka “smoker’s lines”, even though I don’t smoke) need to be addressed as well. The mask doesn’t have any lights directly on the upper lip area though. Hopefully the light is strong enough to reach that area and start to improve those fine lines as well.Just as an aside, I do like that this product is made in the USA from a family-owned company out of California. That makes me feel confident that it had to undergo the rigorous testing required of skincare products in America.No one is more surprised than me that a red light therapy mask actually lives up to the claims of softer, clearer, more wrinkle-free skin. After only two weeks of daily use, I can say that I am seeing a difference already. I would have given this unit 5 stars if not for the controller issue mentioned above. I am really looking forward to continued use and continued skin improvement.
