A time tested coffee-maker design marketed under different brand names – but remains a winner
I’ve now gone through at least a dozen different coffee makers over the past 20 years, ranging in price from $59.95 to $399.95. All worked fairly well, and there was (still is) one particular design – being marketed under different brand names – that stuck out in my mind. This particular coffee maker design produces excellent cups of coffee and its metal carafe design keeps coffee hot for hours. And his one design is now marketed as a Hamilton Beach design. As most of you may know (or not know), most (if not all) products are made in China. They may be designed in various countries, but due to cost-effective measures, are farmed out to China to produce. Many of these products are then sold under various brand names – yet are still the same model, with perhaps some cosmetic changes. This is particular true for various electronic products and appliances.Such is the case with this Hamilton Beach coffee maker. In the past, this same design, save perhaps for some cosmetic differences, was manufactured under the brand names of Melitta, Proctor Silex, Black and Decker and more. In this latest iteration, it is called a Hamilton Beach.Of all the coffee makers I used over the time period mentioned above, this particular design stood out in my mind as having functioned the best, with superior long-term results. And yet it was the least expensive of the coffee makers I used – now go figure? This Hamilton Beach name-brand design brews superb cups of coffee, keeping them quite hot/warm in the metal carafe. I tend to brew various European coffees, which I enjoy, and this coffee maker design has done a superb job of bringing out the various flavors of those brews. I like the fact that you have 3 brewing choices – regular, bold, and strong. This machine uses the superior European design of coffee filter holders (V-shaped), ensuring that brewing coffee grounds don’t overflow with the water running through them, thus preventing a mess. I’ve often found that the conventional (US design) circular coffee filters are not deep enough, and periodically (depending on the thickness of the coffee grounds), can have water backing up in those filter designs, with the wet grounds running into the carafes. Talk about a mess. I’ve also found that the deeper European designs function better – and that’s not to say that overflows can’t happen. Of course, this is all my opinion. In addition, this Hamilton Beach is a nice design, both narrow in width and depth, thus allowing you to slide it into various places on your countertops.I just finished brewing some freshly ground Gevalia Swedish coffee beans, and the rich taste and aroma just tantalizes your senses. My other coffee maker is a $300+ Breville luxury model, and I have to be honest in saying that I cannot tell the differences in coffee tastes between these two machines, other than the fact that the Breville is twice the size of this Hamilton Beach, and made of mostly metal – with a luxurious finish. So in the end, this time-tested design, marketed under different brand names over the past decade, has been a winner – at least in my book.Since reviews are all subjective – based on our having used a product – all I can say is that I realize that everyone’s experiences and opinions may vary, and that no two folks may agree. Your mileage may vary. All I can say is that we’re quite satisfied with the design, low price, and coffee brewing performance of this (now named) Hamilton Beach coffee maker. Need I say more?

    Brews Great, Hot Coffee!
In past several years we have been through Cuisinart grind’n’brews x 2 (spin/blade grinder and burr grinder) and Breville with hopper and burr grinder. They do make pretty good coffee. The Breville needs to cleaned almost weekly to keep the grind shoot open. The lids also leak when pouring. I must say, the Breville normally $349 retail was seen recently at TJ Maxx (multiple units at multiple stores) on clearance for $99 (started at $250) – there is a reason for this.We purchased a Shardor burr grinder (on Amazon) and this coffee maker. Thus far, easy to use, makes great, hot coffee, does not leak and uses less coffee than makers with basket filters. We are very happy with this combination.

    Does Not Keep Coffee Hot
We love the design and very easy to operate. Also easy to clean. Makes good coffee, however the carafe does not keep the coffee hot for hours as advertised, maybe half hour max, even after prepping the carafe with hot water. Extra step and waste of water plus we have to microwave it a cup at a time…. Disappointed but realize that none of the carafe reviews for coffee makers actually keep the coffee hot. We will keep it, based on ease of operation. Just expect coffee will only be warm.

    Fantastic!
Bought for my mom who specifically wanted a cone filter, not a basket filter. She says it makes excellent coffee. She is 85 years old and got it programmed just fine. Her only complaint is that the carafe is heavy when full. Win/win in my book.

Short usable life of the carafe
We bought this coffee maker in June 2023. It was great. We wanted, and got, a thermal pot because we don’t like what happens to coffee kept warm on a warming plate in a glass carafe. Unfortunately, the product life is very short. The coffee maker works but the thermal carafe is no longer thermal. Coffee gets cold, outside of pot gets warm, so presumably it lost its vacuum. Nothing lasts forever but 22 months??? We tried to get new carafe, “customer service” says “replacement carafes aren’t on our website”, which was quite obvious. They still sell the model of coffee maker but don’t have the carafes? Customer service is a joke, presumably the message isn’t answered by an actual human. I hate to keep throwing out coffee makers, contributing the the waste stream.

    Clogged and stopped working
I was shocked. Had this for a month and stopped working. It heats up but the water does not make it to the coffee and shuts off. Apparently the intake got clogged. I was able to spray water through it to unclog.

    Great Coffee Maker
Great coffee maker I purchased for my son’s new home and he is very happy with it.

    Delivered same day
I bought this exact same coffee maker 10 years ago except it was branded Melita back then. I makes very good coffee and I like a thermal carafe rather than a pot sitting on a burner.I woke up Friday morning and my old coffee maker was completely dead. I was able to order this one and get it the same day! Normally I really don’t care how long the shipping takes but when you need coffee it suddenly becomes important!
